A Home Away From Home, True Stories of Wild Animal Sanctuaries.
The non-fiction book A Home Away from Home explores the ways in which wild animals are taken from their natural habitat and spotlights the people who are trying to help them regain some semblance of a normal life.
Nicholas Read is a retired journalist who worked at the Vancouver Sun for most of his career, and a journalism instructor who taught at Langara College for ten years. He is the author (with photographer Ian McAllister) of several bestselling children’s books, including Wolf Island, The Seal Garden, A Whale’s World, The Great Bear Sea, and The Salmon Bears. He volunteers at the Ladner shelter every Thursday and just released a children’s book titled “A Home Away from Home: True Stories of Wild Animal Sanctuaries.”
Read the book yourself and with your children or other youngsters. When finished with it, pass it on to a family with children or better yet, donate your copy to a SCHOOL library. School libraries are always looking for quality books and their budgets are limited. Teachers get children to read books and kids will be drawn to this book because they are normally interested in wildlife. This book will give children a revulsion of the pet trade combined with an appreciation of these creatures.
