Odette and Pierre are a very bonded pair of Green-wing Macaws. We don’t know their age, their history, or even if we have their gender correct. They came to us from the World Parrot Refuge, and since June of 2016 we have watched them blossom from extremely frightened birds who clung to the back of their cage when we cleaned it and changed the food and water to feisty little monsters who are comfortable letting us know who is boss. Hint: it isn’t us! They are protective of one another and if you interact with one the other will scoot over to see what is going on. They enjoy destroying their toys, tongue rubs, and Pierre in particular LOVES being misted. Both of them have papilloma (avian herpes), with Odette’s being more severe. Papilloma is not transmissible to humans, but it is to other macaws and New World Parrots. Odette and Pierre would love a home where they can hang out in their large cage and outside of it for awhile each day. They love each other more than they will ever love the humans in their life, so they do not require a huge investment of your time or energy. But they do need a home to call their own where they can enjoy some freedom, some pampering, and the opportunity to bond with their human. They can be loud, but usually they only vocalize when their food dishes are almost empty.
